About Us
The Islamic Society of Norman – Masjid An-Nur shines as a beacon of unity for central Oklahoma’s diverse Muslim community. Established in 1976, we are a dynamic hub of community engagement, education, and spiritual solace, guided by Islamic principles.
Our aim and purpose is to serve the best interest of Islam and the Muslim community of Norman, in a manner which would enable them to practice Islam as a complete way of life as much as the law of the land permits. All of our activities are in accordance with the teachings of the Quran and following the teachings and traditions of Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be upon Him).
We are a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, multi-lingual, non-sectarian, diverse, and open community committed to full and equal participation and involvement of men and women who are community members of ISN and subscribe to accept its rules, regulations, and procedures. ISN is committed to civic and civil engagement with communities of other faiths and society at large.
Our History
ISN is one of the oldest Mosques (Masjid An-Nur) in Oklahoma. It was established in 1976 by a few Muslim international students who had come to study at the University of Oklahoma and had purchased a simple house on Lindsey St and converted it into a place of worship. As the Muslim population of Norman increased over the years, in 2012, a new building was constructed to accommodate the congregants. The red and white brick color of the new building was specifically chosen to match our neighbors, The University of Oklahoma. Boomer Sooner!
