Masjid Rules, Guidelines & Policies

1. Usage & Care of Masjid Premises

      1. No overnight stays are permitted in the Masjid.
      2.  No showers are permitted in the Masjid.
      3.  Overnight parking must be approved by the Masjid.
      4.  The following vehicles are subject to towing at the owner’s expense:
        1. Vehicles parked in the narrow entrance driveway (George Ave entrance).
        2. Vehicles blocking parking lot entrances (McKinley Ave entrance).
        3. Vehicles double parked and blocking other parked vehicles.
        4.  Vehicles blocking residential driveways.
        5. Vehicles parked in the opposite direction on city roads.
      5. Leave lobbies clutter-free to avoid hampering traffic. Please place all footwear on shoe racks.
      6. Visitors with bulky bags / luggage are to keep their properties in an organized fashion in the library / sideroom.
        1. The Masjid is not responsible for lost or damaged property.
      7. No cooking in the Masjid.
        1. Everyone must clean up after themselves. Dishes and utensils must be washed and put away, trash must be disposed of, and the floor must be vacuumed after oneself. Leave the Masjid cleaner than you find it.
      8. No food should be left in the Masjid so as to avoid attracting insects & critters.
      9. The refrigerators should not be used to store personal items for more than 1 day.

2. Dress Code

  1. Modest, non-revealing clothing which covers the entire body must be observed. For men: Pants are preferred over shorts. For women: Loose bottoms with tops covering the neck and arms. Headscarf is requested.
  2. Attire with offensive images and/or inappropriate messages must be avoided.

3. Announcements & Advertisements

  1. All announcement requests must be made in advance with the Executive Committee.
  2. All written (bulletin board) advertisement requests must be made in advance with the Executive Committee.
  3. No announcements for lost property or sales are to be made at the minbar and/or prayer area.

4. Prayers & Athaan

  1. The Imam and approved brothers are to lead prayers. Approved brothers include:
    1. Imam Mohammad
    2. Br. Tahir Nasir
    3. Br. Samir Alwazzi
    4. Br. Abdurrahman Kelani
    5. Br. Ahsan Amil
    6. Br. Haris
  2. If none of the above are available, the Sunnah-based criteria apply:
    1. One with the most memorization and understanding of the Qur’an.
    2. One with the most knowledge and application of the Sunnah.
    3. One with the most knowledge of the rulings of Salah.
    4. If equal, the eldest is given precedence.
  3. The Athaan and Iqaamah must be given on the microphone at all times.
    1. They must not be sung.
    2. They must be given loudly and clearly.
    3. It is preferred that the same person gives the Iqaamah.

5. Programs & Classes

  1. No classes, lectures, halaqahs, gatherings, or programs may be held without Committee approval.
  2. Post-Salah reminders and announcements may only be given by the Imam, Committee Member, or approved individual.

6. Gender Separation

  1. Everyone aged 9 and above must remain on their respective gender’s side of the Masjid.Parents are encouraged to train children under 9 to also stay on their gender’s side for gradual teaching and tarbiyah.
  2. If anything is needed from the opposite gender’s side, please request the Imam / a Committee Member to assist. If it is not feasible, then knock loudly and make requests through the door.

7. Fundraising Policy

  1. ISN has a first come, first served policy for fundraisers.
  2. To obtain permission for fundraising, all organizations must submit an online fundraising request application form. Please contact ISN to obtain the link to the form.
  3. The form must be submitted one month in advance of the fundraising date.
  4. ISN maintains a reciprocal policy with other organizations requesting fundraisers at ISN.
  5. No auction-style fundraising is permitted. Funds will be requested by the organization and collected at the booth in the lobby.
  6. If a speaker is scheduled for the fundraiser, they must not frame the entire khutbah/lecture around the organization’s work. A brief appeal may be made during the second part of the khutbah. In Ramadan, appeals are to be made after 4 raka’at of Taraweeh and limited to 7 minutes.
  7. ISN reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any fundraising opportunity due to last-minute commitments or unexpected circumstances. The requesting organization will be notified in advance.

9. Jamaat Policy

  1. Inform ISN at least 1 week in advance.
  2. Arrive by Isha prayer (Masjid locks after Salah).
  3. Only one reminder may be given on the microphone per day.
    1. Check with the Imam before Salah if a reminder is already prepared.
    2. Allow approximately 30 seconds after tasleem before speaking into the microphone.
    3. Reminders may only be read from 40 Hadith Nawawi or Riyadh as-Saliheen on heart-softening topics or similar.
    4. Keep reminders under 4 minutes.
  4. Please be respectful of people’s time. If 10 minutes pass while speaking to someone, politely ask if they have more time. Otherwise, conclude the conversation.
  5. No cooking and no use of propane or similar fuels or stoves inside the Masjid.
  6. No showering in the Masjid.
